So yesterday I was driving home from church when a cop pulled me over. He clocked me at 33. It was apparently a 20 mph zone. And I didn't have my license. Oops. So I was double busted.
The officer asked me if I knew the island-wide speed limit... I said, 30? He chuckled, "No, ma'am. It's 25." Ohhh. 25.
So, I was breaking the law. I got a ticket. That's fair. And he let me go on the license thing. I mean, I was on my way home from church. I didn't have my license because Ephraim was going to drive, but he had to stay after for a meeting. So I had to drive, right?
The officer said, "Is this your first violation in the territory ma'am?" I said, "I think it's my first violation ever." "Well, you're just a good citizen." Yup.
And as we drove away Isaac said, "That policeman was cool." Yup.
I wonder how cool my fine will be.
Has anyone else ever been pulled over for speeding at 33?

Nope! But I have been busted for going more than 33 over. Is that the same? Not really. I can't believe that is your first ticket ever!
I got my only speeding ticket about 5 years ago--for going 28 in a 20. It was a school zone so the fine was higher than normal. And I was dropping my kids off at school at the time. And while I waited for him to give me a ticket, I watched several cars drive past me at faster than 28--I'm pretty sure. Sigh. We've got to stop being so reckless, right, Melinda?
That's classic. The island wide speed is 25? You should just get a golf cart. Then you won't even be tempted to go over.
In Laie, you can get a ticket for going 30. My MIL has gotten 2 of those.
becky, 33 over is something to be proud of. is that a felony?
i know i'm trying to be less reckless.
and yesterday ephraim bought a bike, so now i'm overparanoid about cautious drivers.
I can't believe that's your first. I lost count a while back. Luckily kids have slowed me down a TON. I won't tell you my highest though, cause its seriously embarrassing!
I live the golf cart idea. Those are fun to drive too, instant air conditioning.
Woo! 33?! You are such a speed demon!
Hey sorry I haven't posted in a while, I seriously thought you hadn't updated your blog because I'd book marked the wrong page. You and the family look great and I am SO glad that you are all going strong, though we want you back here. You know, Alex graduates high school next year.
holy cow. 33. that's awesome. the speed limit on our street is 35 and most people (me included) drive 40-45. What can I say? We Kentuckians (you included) have a need for speed.
