Well, frankly I've had a case of blog aversion leading to blog neglect. It happens on and off for me. So I changed our layout for an "exciting new look". We'll post more often now.
We miss Hawaii, but life is too busy to dwell on that. (Do you ever come back from vacation feeling refreshed, then take on more and more tasks everyday after until you feel swamped again?)
I'm teaching a six week course of high school Spanish this summer. La clase va chevere, aunque los estudiantes me sacan la piedra! A little Venezuelan there. These Samoan students love talking. And they're fearless with a foreign language. In the first week they were standing in front of the class having conversations and introducing each other in Spanish. These kids love performing. For some their whole life is a performance. (Is that a Samoan thing or just high school?)
Ephraim's jonseing to surf, but we've had blown out waves and almost constant rainstorms. So he just constructed a shelving unit (from scratch, and treated lumber) for our storage room. Oh, if I could show you that room. Picture roaches, moisture, termites rotting out anything wood-like, and a pile of our stuff--carseat, stroller, boxes of Christmas decor, various surf items--in room the size of your bathroom. Oh, don't forget the graffiti-covered walls. The shelves are a big improvement.
We've also had our noses buried in Children of Dune and Eat Pray Love, respectively.
Enough babbling for now. Like I said, with this jazzy new look you'll be hearing more from us, your friends out here on the island.
(P.S. Do you ever brag that you have friends in Samoa? Like we brag about our friends in New York City, Paris, North Shore, and Japan? And American Fork?)

This is actually Mariko, posting through Jesse in Japan. I definitely brag about having friends in Samoa. It makes me sound adventurous by association. I'm glad to hear that the waves are blown out. It will make Jake feel better about his decision. He must have had a premonition about it. Ha ha. I love the look, and love more that you're posting again. We've missed you.
and Charlotte, NC?
love the new do, melinda. you really look like a native now.
You've been bragging about me?? Yeah, American Fork and American Samoa are SO similar. I know how others would think that was cool. Love the new hair, btw. Don't they say that couples start to look alike the longer they've been together?!

I love the pic!
I use the apron you sent me pretty much every day. thanks!
