Tooth Fairy Tonight

Today Ella was running on concrete, tripped, and ... lost BOTH her two front teeth. OUCH!
She was really brave about it. (But she was screaming her brains out.) And I remained calm. (I panicked on the inside.)

We managed to find one tooth, and I reminded her that the tooth fairy would come tonight, and that they were her baby teeth, and they were going to come out soon anyway. And we were okay after awhile.

So now our sweet little one talks a little more lispy than before. She has to adjust how she bites food. And fortunately she stopped sucking her fingers just two weeks ago (a huge accomplishment), so these new ones will grow in straight.

Now I'm off to see if the tooth fairy needs help finding 8 shiny quarters.

Does the tooth fairy come to AS? Does he/she leave money or bananas or coconut shell jewelry?

A dollar a tooth?! Wow! When I was called upon to be the agent for the tooth fairy when James lost a tooth, I left the contents of Jason's coin purse, which was 82 cents. Not knowing what to do with the tooth, I put it in the coin purse where the money had been. Jason was grossed out by it and asked, "What am I supposed to do with it--offer it as payment? 'Here have my son's tooth. These things have a great exchange rate; just leave it under your pillow!'"

Melinda, this is Gene...Karen's son. Tafi was talking about the Ta'iala academy and sent me your blog because it had pictures. I spent a couple hours going through your blog and found it very enjoyable. You're a great example of someone that moves to Samoa and finds and embraces the positives. 90% of what I hear from palagis that go to Samoa is negative. Thanks so much for loving Samoa and raising your kids there. If I can only get my wife to read your blog so that she could see the happiness in Samoa is a real possibility :) Thanks again.

I love your blog, Melinda! Sorry I NEVER comment -- I think I'm just jealous of your adventures! Hmm . . . do they need a speech pathologist in Samoa? Or maybe nearby New Zealand . . . Sounds like such an amazing experience for you guys, and I will keep reading. :-) Tell Ella I think she looks so "thweet" with no front teeth! :-) Love you guys --
